Bastille supports sustainable, traditional and humane farming

Opened in 2006 by Christophe Poteaux & Michelle Garbee-Poteaux, Bastille is a contemporary bistro and wine bar.

Chef Christophe Poteaux and Michelle Garbee-Poteaux (formerly Executive Chef and Pastry Chef of Aquarelle at the Watergate Hotel) are the heart and soul of Bastille. Their menu creations are based on a combination of traditional, yet modern interpretations of classic bistro fare.
Bastille is however, a modern, not "old-school" French bistro.
Bastille is viewed as a "bistro gastro" (as so many younger French chefs are opening nowadays):
"A simple and comfortable setting with fine dining food at bistro prices".

The bold flavors, combined with rich and exciting creations…that is what makes Bastille the perfect place for a romantic night out, impressing your business clients or a refined wine dinner with friends.

The hand-picked wine selections offer more than 120 labels with over twenty of them available by the glass or tasting pour (half glass)

For all these reasons and a few of your own, we know that Bastille will be the place you come to for your next…lunch, dinner, wine tasting or pre theatre gathering…

Summer menus
It's coming... Bastille is moving toward the summer. As soon as the Farmer's markets and the Garden are producing the stapples of the summer: tomatoes, eggplants, summer squashes, peaches...
Stay tuned, it could happen very soon.

2009 Rammy Awards
June 10, 2009
Bastille and Alexandria Top restaurants stole the show at the RAMMY Award Gala on Sunday, June 7 2009 !
Our good friends of Restaurant Eve took the well-deserved top award of the night:
Best Fine Dining Restaurant.  Congratulations to Meshelle and Cathal Armstrong !
Also, Tony Chittum of Vermillion, takes the Rising Culinary Start of the year! Congrats Chef ! Although our dear friend from Majestic Cafe, Shannon Overmiller could have taken it as well, we are very happy for Tony after many previous nominations. He's shown some enduring consistency and talent.
Last but not least, even though Michelle has shown that she is part of the top Pastry Chefs in the Nation's Capital, we are delighted to see the Award go to one of the best talents in her profession, Kate Jensen from Willow restaurant. She is a friend and one of the best in the country. With Tracy O'Grady, they are one of the best teams in the nation (Bastille's team amongst them)....The evening was a lot of fun (too much for some !) and we are very greatful to all our customers, employees, friends, and suppliers... for their continued support.
We'll be back in 2010 !

Our exhibiting artist is Jo Fleming.
